HAWK Expands Level Measurement Portfolio With New 80 GHz Radar series

HAWK Measurement Systems has launched the Senator H80 Radar Series, a range of 80 GHz frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar level transmitters for measuring liquids, slurries and bulk solids across industrial applications.

The new series expands the company’s level measurement portfolio, adding non-contact radar technology alongside its existing acoustic, ultrasonic, microwave, guided wave radar, fibre optic, laser and sonar measurement products.

The Senator H80 Radar Series uses 80 GHz FMCW radar technology, which provides a narrow beam angle and is designed to maintain measurement accuracy in challenging process conditions, including steam, dust, foam, vapour and turbulent surfaces.

The range comprises two models. The Senator H80C compact radar is intended for tanks, sumps and process vessels, with measuring ranges of up to 30 m. The Senator H80I is designed for more demanding industrial applications, offering measuring ranges of up to 120 m for both liquids and solids, with high-temperature versions rated for process temperatures of up to 260°C.

According to HAWK, the two models allow operators to standardise on a common radar platform across a range of applications while accommodating different installation requirements.

The company says the radar transmitters have been developed to provide a lower cost per measuring point than many conventional high-frequency radar systems, making them suitable for both individual installations and larger plant-wide deployments.

Configuration and commissioning can be carried out using Bluetooth connectivity and PC-based software. The Senator H80I also incorporates an integrated display and keypad to enable local configuration and diagnostics.

The radar series is intended for use in industries including mining and minerals processing, oil and gas, chemicals and petrochemicals, cement and building materials, food and beverage, pulp and paper, and water and wastewater treatment. As a non-contact measurement technology, it is designed for applications involving aggressive or contaminated process media.
