Engineered polymer manufacturer igus is continuing to expand its range of drylin linear guides as demand for lubrication-free sliding guides provide a cleaner and more reliable alternative to recirculating ball bearings in linear applications.
The igus guide technology eliminates the need for external grease or oil which reduces maintenance requirements and the risk of lubricant contamination. Based on the principle of “sliding instead of rolling” the drylin systems use high-performance iglidur polymers to provide low-friction movement. The guides are designed to operate in “dirty” environments where dirt corrosion or even noise can be better managed.
Applications include packaging machinery, robotics, machine tools, automation equipment and medical technology. The range includes profile rail guides, low-profile slides, shaft guides, modular systems and complete linear actuators.
igus also offers guides designed to simplify retrofitting with dimensions compatible with conventional ball-bearing guides for easy replacement without major design changes. The range continues to be developed for lighter components, chemical resistance and other specialised solutions including hygienic and medical applications. The choice of guide depends on factors such as load, operating conditions, speed and positioning requirements.
