Approximately 75 percent of mechanical faults on conveyor systems are caused by roller failures. These failures can result in unplanned production downtime, increased energy consumption and safety risks. REMA TIP TOP has introduced the latest version of its mobile condition monitoring solution for conveyor rollers, MCube RFP Mobile 2.0. The system has a compact design, revised user interface, diagnostic technology and automated reporting.
Conveyor systems face ongoing cost pressures because even short periods of downtime can result in significant losses. Rollers account for about 40 percent of a conveyor belt’s energy consumption. Early bearing wear increases rolling resistance, while a blocked roller can double energy consumption. Despite this, maintenance at many facilities remains reactive, with inspections often taking place after damage or failure has occurred. MCube RFP Mobile 2.0 is designed to help maintenance teams identify potential problems earlier and use condition data to support maintenance decisions.
The device measures 105 Ă— 40 Ă— 25 mm. It has a colour touchscreen, physical buttons and a power switch designed to prevent accidental activation. The device is dust- and splash-resistant and has a rechargeable battery with USB-C charging and a battery level indicator.
The analysis algorithm has been validated using hundreds of measurements from conveyor systems. More than 250 measurements can be completed during a single inspection cycle. Using the accompanying MCube RFP Mobile Manager software, measurement data can be transferred via USB-C and converted into standardised inspection reports. The reports classify each inspected roller frame as “OK”, “OBSERVE” or “NOT OK” and include information such as the inspection date, technician, customer, conveyor ID and number of measurements.
“With MCube RFP Mobile 2.0, we have enhanced our proven mobile solution by incorporating extensive feedback from colleagues who use the system in the field,” says Dr.-Ing. Daniel Kasperek, Vice President Engineering at REMA TIP TOP. “The result is a compact, robust, and intuitive device that provides precise condition data and enables maintenance teams to make informed decisions on site.”
MCube RFP Mobile 2.0 is intended to support condition-based maintenance of conveyor rollers and identify potential roller problems before failure. The MCube portfolio also includes belt thickness measurement, belt rip detection and steel cord inspection systems.
